MOA Receives Humanitarian Award from The Zonta Club of Malden

Malden Overcoming Addiction receives Humanitarian Award from The Zonta Club of Malden. in a night filled with powerhouse women recognized for doing amazing work in our community, Malden Overcoming Addiction also gained special acknowledgement for their work.

The Zonta Club of Malden applauded Julie Mangan, Zayda Ortiz, and Andrea So for their contributions to the Malden community and for their steadfast leadership in empowering other women in breaking down barriers that often marginalized women in society. According to their website “The Zota Club of Malden and our members work within our community to realized our vision of a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential, where women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men, and where no woman lives in fear of violence.”

Mangan’s steadfast work in the Malden Community Gardens was highlighted while Ortiz drew praise for her community work advocacy, and specifically for her contributions to Malden during the pandemic through Malden Neighbors Helping Neighbors. So was honored for her dedication to students as well as her work in establishing the Greater Malden Asian American Community Coalition. Each of the women spoke passionately about their work and about the support they continue to receive in this community from other women.

The recognition of Malden Overcoming Addiction as unique. President Paul Hammersley graciously accepted the award on behalf of the MOA Board members and Recovery Coaches in attendance. he spoke of the recovery support services available throughout the City and highlighted MOA’s plans to eventually open a Sober Living space in Malden for women. This announcement drew great applause from the audience.

Malden Overcoming Addiction (MOA) is a community partner whose mission is to connect the community with addiction support and recovery services, remove the stigma of addiction, and fight to eliminate overdose fatalities in Malden and surrounding communities.
